KESKIVIIKKONA 25.5. klo 14.00
Reissulle lähtö varmistui aivan viime tipassa, maanantaina 23.5. tuli
vihreää valoa ja jo keskiviikkona piti lähteä jotta ehtisimme
perjantaiaamuksi perille..
Hiukan tuli kiire matkajärjestelyjen kanssa, itselläni oli
lisäksi allakka täynnä hommia loppuviikoksi. Olimme toivoneet pääsevämme
jo pitkään esittelemään kissojamme GA:han, ja melkoisen "säädön" jälkeen se sitten
onnistuikin. Lupa mennä kokoukseen lopulta heltisi : ) Tosin vielä tuntia
ennen reissulle lähtöä mailit paukkuivat ja puhelimet soivat, edelleenkin
tietyt henkilöt tunkivat kapuloita rattaisiin hyväksymisasiassa (en nimeä
henkilöitä..) ja oli epäselvää
saataisiinko siellä kissoja edes esitellä, mutta paikalle lähdettäisiin!
Pakkasin "Bitsyn" (Currtail's Princess Buttercup) kassiin ja lähdin kotoani Helsingistä keskiviikkona
25.5. iltapäivällä hakemaan Aaltosen Tuijaa ja "Miniä"
(Romanxx Jake Delhomme) Keravalta ja sen jälkeen
Nurmijärvelle hakemaan kasvattini, Tervosen Outin "Kidi" (D'manns
Kimrick) reissulle. Outi itse ei
päässyt reissuun,
mutta minullehan riitti kissakin : ) Kiitos vaan kissanlainasta! Ajoimme
Turkuun ja sieltä edelleen laivalla Tukholmaan. Hyttijärjestely oli
mielenkiintoinen,
mukana siis kiimainen tyttökissa, leikkaamaton aikuinen kolli ja 6,5 kk
vanha poju - kaikki eri talouksista. Bitsy vietti yön laivan yläpedissä
isossa häkissä,
ja käytin neitiä välillä valjaissa ulkoilemassa laivan käytävillä. Mini ja
Kidi tulivat varsin mainiosti keskenään toimeen, kuten alunperin
arvelinkin. Molemmat
rauhallisia ja kilttejä poikia, toinen vielä aivan "lapsi".
Tukholmassa pakkauduimme aamulla jälleen autoon ja nokka kohti Malmöä.
Ajettavaa olisi edessä reilut 600 km. Ajoin aika reipasta vauhtia, pari
kertaa
pysähdyttiin ihan reiluilla tauoilla, ulkoilutettiin Bitsyä, joka sai
Tuijalta uuden lempinimen "Hänen Kuninkaallinen Narttuutensa" ; D Nimi
taisi aiheutua
neidin pontevasta vastustelusta (kiroili), kun häntä "pakattiin" jälleen
kuljetuslaukkuun ulkoilujen jäljiltä : ) Varsinainen epeli.. Hienoista
ylinopeutta ajellen
(myönnettäköön, kaasujalkani on hiukka raskas) olimme perillä Malmössä jo
iltapäivällä, reippasti etuajassa, ja aikaa olisi ehtiä vielä
kokouspaikallekin.
PERILLÄ MALMÖSSÄ -
TORSTAI 26.5.
Kissat jäivät hotellihuoneeseen ja kokouspaikalla tapasimme Ingeborg
Ekstrandin, joka oli miehensä Walter Wegen kanssa sopimassa esittelyyn
liittyvistä
asioista. Perjantai-aamuna oli kissojen lisäksi tarkoitus pitää myös
lyhyt powerpoint esitys Cymriceistä ja Manxeista, jonka Walter ja Ingeborg
olivat
tehneet ja
heijastaa se isolle kankaalle. Kokouspaikalla selvisi myös, että vihjauksia
teknisistä epäselvyyksistä hyväksymismenettelyn suhteen oli esitetty
pari henkilöä oli sitä mieltä, että ehdotusta ei voitaisi lainkaan käsitellä. Melkoisen
jännittäväksi siis menisi, mutta periksi ei annettaisi : ) Puhuin aiheesta
usemmankin puolellamme olevan ihmisen kanssa ja sovimme, että katsotaan mitä tämän
illan aikana selviäisi. Viimetipan hankaluudet eivät tulleet mitenkään yllätyksenä, näitä "miinoja" oli pudoteltu jo jonkin verran hyväksymisasiassa matkan
varrella muutenkin. Hollannissa oleva Breed Council sihteerimme Mimy lähetteli vielä
viime hetkellä lisäyksiä, tekstiä ja lisää sukutaulukopioita
pitkäkarvaisista ja var-tekijää kantavista kissoista jaettavaksi
GA-delegaatioidennähtäväksi Britt
Hagar Alvestadin kautta - kiitos!. Yritimme jonkin aikaa seurata kokousta, mutta se osoittautui mahdottomaksi
toimivien kuulokkeiden puuttuessa. Päätimmekin lähteä syömään ja sitten
olikin jo
aika lähteä hotellille. Edessä oli Bitsyn pesu, jätin sen tarkoituksella
viime tippaan arvatessani että neiti sotkee turkkinsa kiehnätessään
lemmen kipeänä. Viisas päätös. Tosin neiti oli "napakarvojen" föönauksesta hiukan
eri mieltä kanssani, kiroilua riitti : ) Todellinen "punapää",
temperamenttia riittää! Neiti ei ole
onneksi keksinyt, että kynnet ja hampaatkin olevat olemassa eli käyttäytyy
aina
kiltisti, mutta äänekkäästi.
Yöllinen tekstiviesti varmisti, että kissojen esittely järjestettäisiin ja
sitten olisikin delegaatioiden asia päättää hyväksyvätkö ehdotuksen vai
eivät : )
SE PÄIVÄ... -
PERJANTAI 27.5.
Olimme hyvissä ajoin ennen aamu 8:aa kokouspaikalla ja meno oli melkoista.
Meille osoitettiin "esittelypaikaksi" likainen varastotila, täynnä
rullakoita ja
kuormalavoja. Kokoustilahan oli ravintolatila, jonne kissoja ei saanut
viedä ilman erillistä lupaa valtiolta tietyllä kellonlyömällä. Mitään häkkejä ei ollut.
Esitteillä olevien
kissojen rekisterikirjoista otettiin (jälleen) kopiot ja sitten J&LO Committee alkoi katsastella kissoja,
kunnes paikalle sattui kuorma-auto,
joka otti ja rullasi varastotilan oven
ylös ja alkoi lastaamaan huoneeseen lisää tavaraa.
Ja kissat vapaana!! No, siitäkin selvittiin. Kissat käyttäytyivät käsittämättömän hyvin olosuhteet huomioon ottaen. Meteli oli melkoinen
kuorma-auton
jyristessä vieressä. Vahvistuksena
oli 11 kk vanha kollipoika
Reveljens Absolut Godis. Varsin mainio ja
reipas poika. Olosuhteista viis, tärkeintähän oli esitellä
kissoja. Saimmekin
J&LO komitealta ystävällisen
vastaanoton - kiitos
!
Kiikutimme kissat autolle ja lähdimme jännittämään käsittelyä. Olin hiukan
pettynyt siihen, että GA-väelle kissoja ei saataisi esitellä, ja kuitenkin
olivat
aivan oven toisella puolella. Ovea raottamalla heidät saattoi nähdä. Onneksi
olin väärässä, pian tultiinkin kysymään, että "missä kissat ovat", meillä
on tässä telttakankaiset näyttelyhäkit, nyt kissat äkkiä takaisin, jotta
delegaatiot pääsevät myös niitä katsomaan. Ja mehän juoksimme : D Esittelytila oli vanha tuttu varastohuone, teltat kasattiin pikavauhtia ja
niiden alle rakennettiin pöydät puisista kuormalavoista. Tuija ja Albert (Kurkowski) rakensivat näyttelytilaa kuin vanhat konkarit (mitä olivatkin). Albert
jopa löysi jostakin tekopuun, ja tokaisi että pitäähän meillä koristeet
olla ; D
Koko rakenteluun meni vajaa 10 min, ja delegaatiot alkoivat tulla sisään.
Kamerat räpsyivät ja ihmiset pääsivät rapsuttelemaan ja "kopeloimaan"
kissoja,
kun pidimme niitä enimmän osan ajasta sylissä. Ja sitten saliin..
käsittely alkaisi. Eric Reijers (kokouksen puheenjohtaja ja FIFé
puheenjohtaja) piti kauniin
puheen pätkän aiheesta, ja muutama muukin puhui. Valitettavasti olimme niin takaosassa
salia ja edelleen vailla kuulokkeita etten juuri kuullut mitään saatikka
nähnyt kuka puhui.. Mitään ihmeempiä ei aiheesta kommentoitu vaan äänestämään
päädyttiin mielestäni todella nopeasti. Mielessäni pyöri vain, että "nyt
se on menoa" ja jännitti aivan tajuttomasti.. "Aloitetaan äänestys - lopetetaan
äänestys" - nuo sanat kaikuvat vielä pitkään päässäni. Kuulin Ericin
sanovan "äänet ovat 24 puolesta - 6 vastaan". Tai siis en kuullut.. kuulin aluksi vähän väärin
(kummallista..), mutta ymmärsin että puolesta ääniä oli enemmän. Nousin seisomaan ja vain seisoin siinä.. Sitten tajusin, että ehdotus meni
läpi!! Ihmiset taputtivat iloisina ja minä odotin edes lyhyttä hetkeä,
jossa sanoa - KIITOS.
Taukoa ei tullut, vaan väki jatkoi suoraan seuraavaan
esitykseen. Satu Hämäläinen käveli luokseni, onnitteli halausten kera ja
minä aloin itkeä tillittää. Satukin tirautti pari kyyneltä. Alva Uddin
tuli onnittelemaan, samoin Thea Friskovec ja moni muu. Halailimme ja
kaulailimme ja minä vain itkin : D
KIITOS KAIKILLE - aivan käsittämätöntä. Tunnen ihmisiä,
jotka ovat odottaneet tätä tapahtuvaksi 20 vuotta ja nyt se tuli !!
Lähetin kasapäin viestejä hyväksynnästä ystävillemme ja
soitin muutamalle. Soitin myös Breed Councilimme sihteerille Mimy
Sluiterille Hollantiin, kiitimme toisiamme vuolaasti, töitähän olimme
tehneet tämän eteen älyttömästi. Mimykin itki onnesta puhelimessa, ei
ollut edellisenä yönä saanut nukutuksi jännitykseltä. Tiesin, että
kokouksessa olisi tauko vasta usean tunnin kuluttua, joten sinne ei
auttanut jäädä. Kävimme Ingeborgin ja Walterin luona pikaisella
kakkukahveella matkan varrella ja jatkoimme Tukholmaa kohti kaasu
pohjassa. Historiallinen kyläreissu sekin, olimme 1. suomalaiset
kyläilijät heillä, vaikka monen Suomessa asuvan kissan sukutaulusta löytyy
heidän kasvattejaan. Manxien lisäksi heillä on myös eurooppalaisia -
kasvattajanimi Yamasee lienee monelle tuttu. Meillä oli ilo tutustua myös
erääseen piakkoin Suomeen muuttavaan eurooppalaispentuun - kohta nähdään
täällä näyttelyissä.
Laivalla tuli hiukan juhlittua, tilattiin ihan 1/2 pullo
samppakaljaa, joka juotiin 2:een tyttöön Tuijan kanssa. Meillä oli siis
kunnon ryyppäjäiset : D

TRAVELLING.. START ON WEDNESDAY 25.5. 14.00 o'clock
We really had to go on short
notice, on monday 23.5. since for long
it has been unclear if we could show any cats at the GA assembly at all.
Finally we got the green
light from Malmö and already on wednesday we should go, to be there on
friday morning. We
had to "hurry a little" with travelling plans, I
also had a calender
filled with work for the rest of the week so I had to make some "changes".We had hoped
for a long time to have a permition to show our cats at
GA and after a huge "set up" and lots of phone calls and emails sent
we happily could. Even
an hour before leaving some "powers to be"
(wont name them here..) still were making things difficult
for the recognation issues but we were determined to go there and take our chances !
I packed "Bitsy"
(Currtail's Princess Buttercup) in her bag and left home from Helsinki at wednesday afternoon 25 may on to pick Tuija Aaltonen
and
"Mini" (Romanxx Jake
Delhomme) from Kerava and from there to Nurmijärvi to pick a kitten I
bred, Outi Tervonen's "Kidi" (D'manns Kimrick)
to our trip.
Outi couldn't come, but I was satisfied to get her cat : ) Thank
you Outi for lending him to me! We drove to Turku and from there to
Stockholm by boat.
Our cabin arrangements were interesting, we had an adult girl who was in
heat, an whole adult male and a 6,5 months old boy
in a same cabin - and all
from different houses. Bitsy spent her trip in a big
cage and I took her out to walk in boat corridoors
on a leash a couple of times. The boys, Mini and
Kidi got along just fine, like
I thought they
would. Both calm and sweet and Kidi still behaving like a kitten.
At
Stokholm we loaded our car in the morning and headed off to Malmö. We had
600 km:s to drive. I have to admit I drove quite fast so we
had a couple
of good breaks having Bitsy
out for walks. Tuija gave her a new nickname "Her Royal Bitschyness"
; D The name probably resulted from her resistance
and muttering when she was put
back in her carrier after the walks : ) Some more
speeding and we arrived in Malmö thursday afternoon and
had plenty
of time and decided to go to the meeting place to check out next days
arrangements.
AT MALMÖ - THURSDAY
26.5.
We left the
cats in our hotel and met Ingeborg Ekstrand, who was there with her
husband Walter Wege to make next days arrengements to present the
cats. We had
planned to have a short powerpoint presentation of cymrics and
manx which Ingeborg and Walter had made and have it
projected on a big
screen and
have "cats on live" present at the same time. At meeting place we discovered that some
innuendos about tecnical problems of our proposal had
been made and a
couple of people saying the proposal propably even would not be dealt with because of those.
So it was getting pretty exciting last minutes ahead of us, but we
were not going to give up. I talked about it with several people and we
agreed to see
what might be done to reason things. All this wasn't as
surprise to me, these
"road blocks" had been put there earlier too in the long period towards
the general assembly. Back in The Netherlands our BC-secretary Mimy
Sluiter e-mailed last minute additions so sent off text and more
(generations of)
pedigrees of LH
Manx and Manx carrying LH
within FIFe since 1983 to be distributed amongst the delegates and committee members via Britt Hagar
Alvestad
(thank you) and others again discussed / argumented the "sister breed
rule" possibilities here. So hopefully all that needed convincing would
perhaps
remove their road blocks now..
We tried for a while to
follow the thursdays meeting, but it seemed to be impossoble due to
missing headphones. Couldn't hear a thing without them.
So we decided to go eating and then it was time to go back to our hotel. I still had "a Bitsy
wash" to do, I wanted to wash her as late as possible knowing
that she would
destroy her hairstyle when she was in heat and constantly rolling over the floor longing for a love affair : ) A wise
decision.
My little miss had her own opinions about
me blow drying her belly and a lot of "feline swearing was done when I got
to that part of her body ; ) She is
a real redhed, and
has a lot of temperament, but she always stays polite and never uses her
claws or teeth, just swears verbally ; D
A message at
night confirmed that our cats and proposal was going to be presented and
then in the end it would be up to delegates to decide if they would
accept the proposal.
THAT
DAY - FRIDAY 27.5.
We arrived
safely before 8 am at the meeting place and then witnessed quite on
interesting situation going on there. We were put to a dirty storage room, full of boxes
and stuff which would have to serve as our "showing place".The meeting place was a restaurant space,
where cats weren't allowed without a special permit from the goverment (which
the organisers didn't have..). There were no
cages available either. Copies of all pedigrees were taken (again).
The J&LO committee started to judge and
evaluate the cats and then
a loading truck drove in and the the people simply began to unload it!
There was a lot of noise and hustle resulting and we had cats free in an open space
so felt a bit awkward but happily we managed and the cats behaved
wonderfully
under all the stress. We had also another LH Manx added to ours, 11 moths
old Reveljens Absolute Godis joined us and he was a very nice brave boy.
We got good reviews from the J&LO Committee - Thank You all !
We then took the
cats to our car and hurried to see the actual handling of our issue. I was a little disappointed that we couldn't show our cats
to
GA-delegates, knowing they
were just behind the door. You could see them just opening the door.
Luckily I was wrong, we vere asked where our cats are, and showed us these "show tents", then asked to hurry to get them back to be seen by delegates. And
we did run : D "The showhall" was the same
storage room, we
then quickly put
up the tents and set up tables for them from wooden pallets. Tuija and
a FIFé judge Albert Kurkowski built up our show space from scratch like experienced "oldtimers" (which they really were ; ). Albert being utterly
creative in this project even found a fake tree, and said you
need to to have a nicely decorated show !
It took only about less than 10
minutes to set up all that was required and the delegates began coming in. A lot of
pictures were taken and people were able to see and touch the
cats and we kept them mostly in our laps. After this "mini show" the delagates returned to the restaurant and the proposal was floored.
Eric Reijers
(acting chairman of the meeting and FIFé also) kept a very nice short
speech about the issue and also others spoke briefly. Unfortunately
we had no head phones so could could not
hear all the words well nor could we see much since we were situated
way back in the room. It seemed that the voting was to be held on very short notice
after this. The only thing going on my mind was that "this is it" and I was sooo incredibly nervous ! I heard Eric
saying "Start voting" and then "Stop voting"
(people were pushing buttons and voting is till a secret affair in FIFé)
and those words have echoed in my head for a long time afterwards,
I can tell you. Then I heard him say "Votes are 24 for and 6 against". To be accurate, I didn't hear it
well, I heard the numbers wrong (strange..) and I standed up and just stood
still and I realized
that the proposal was accepted !! People started to applaud and I just waited
for a short break be
able to say "Thank You" to all but there was no break. They immediately
moved to the next issue as there was much more to be decided.
Satu Hämäläinen came up to me and congratulated
and gave me a big hug and I began to cry and I glanced that Satu also had
some tears in her eyes : )
Then Alva Uddin
came as well as Thea Friskovec and many others too. We all hugged and I just
could not stop crying. THANK YOU ALL !! It was amazing.
I know people
had been waiting for this to happen for more than 20 years and now it had become a reality.
I sent a lot of messages of the
acceptance of the recognition proposal to our friends and also called few,
including of course our Breed Council
secretary in the
Netherlands, Mimy Sluiter, who also began to cry through the phone and I
thanked her and she me for the hard work we had done. She said she had
barely slept the
night before!
Unfortunately we had to go
as our boat from Stockholm to Finland would not waite. I knew
that the General Assembly had a break coming but alas
it was too late for us to
stay and thank everyone more elaborately. We had a short stop over with
Ingeborg and Walter to have a very quick celebration
with coffee and cake and
then had to rush off to
Stockholm. Some history here too, we were the first Finnish visitors in their cattery,
albeit many
cats in
Finland have their cats their pedigrees.
Along with manx they have europeans - the name Yamasee is known by several
abroad. We also enjoyed
seeing a very
promising European kitten that will go to Finland soon and we hope
to meet that at a show here again.
Finally
we had a little celebration on the boat back home - we ordered half
a bottle of champagne which we drank together.
So we
had "a real drunken party" : D Good girls just drink little...
